The reason BBPOA exists

Keep the channel open. Keep Barrow Bay on the water.

The man-made channel between Little Lake and Georgian Bay is this community’s lifeline. Without regular care — dredging, erosion control, restoration — boats cannot pass, the ramp at Channel Road loses its purpose, and a hidden gem of the Bruce Peninsula starts to close in on itself.

Membership dues and community fundraising are how we pay for that work. There is no separate government program that will do it for us.

Channel restoration

Funds from the annual Golf Tournament and the Barrow Bay Picnic support the Barrow Bay Channel Restoration Project and related dredging. Historically, the golf tournament has raised tens of thousands of dollars toward erosion control. Every membership, every tournament ticket, and every picnic donation is a vote for boats, fishing, and a lake that stays connected to Georgian Bay.

How you can help this year

  1. Become a member — $40 base in 2026, plus boat fees if you keep a powered craft here. Membership is the reliable annual engine of channel work.
  2. Play or sponsor the Golf Tournament — the association’s largest community fundraiser, and the event that has historically moved the restoration needle the most.
  3. Show up for the Family Picnic — or volunteer to help organize it. Fun raises money; neighbours raise more.
  4. Send a donation earmarked for channel / dredge work to bbpoatreasurer1@gmail.com.

Did you know?

  • The channel is man-made. It does not maintain itself.
  • Boat-ramp access at 12 Channel Road only matters if boats can actually reach Georgian Bay.
  • Questions about how funds are used belong at the Annual General Meeting, where the Treasurer and Channel Master report to members.
